WHO WE ARE

Yasmine Laraqui Studio & Residency is an independent art residency and curatorial platform based in Casablanca. It supports artists, writers, researchers, curators and other cultural practitioners through residential stays, project-based collaborations, curatorial dialogue and public programs.

The residency is conceived as a period of research, experimentation and exchange. Participants are encouraged to engage with Casablanca’s artistic, architectural and social landscape while developing a new or existing project.

STUDIO & ACCOMMODATION

Residents receive one private bedroom in accommodation arranged within Casablanca. The exact location and facilities may vary according to the residency period, capacity and project needs, and are confirmed before booking. Wi-Fi and basic utilities are included.

The principal working and curatorial base is the Palmier studio. It is a shared, flexible environment for research, writing, meetings and small- to medium-scale artistic work. Depending on the project, activities and public presentations may also take place in partner spaces elsewhere in Casablanca. The studio is not a private production space assigned exclusively to one resident.

Applicants must communicate their spatial, technical and material requirements before confirming their stay. Projects involving heavy machinery, hazardous materials, specialised equipment or extensive fabrication cannot be assumed to be feasible.

CASABLANCA AS A CONTEXT

Casablanca’s layered histories, modern architecture and position across African, Mediterranean and global networks offer a rich environment for artistic and cultural research. When relevant, the studio may facilitate introductions to artists, curators, researchers and cultural spaces in the city.

PROGRAM PATHWAYS

1. Residential Program

The Residential Program welcomes international practitioners and Moroccan practitioners living outside Casablanca who require accommodation. Residencies generally last from one to three months.

The standard fee is EUR 1,000 per month for one private room. It includes accommodation, Wi-Fi and basic utilities, agreed access to the Palmier studio, curatorial dialogue, project-development support and relevant professional introductions when possible.

Fees for duos sharing a room and for shorter stays are confirmed according to room use and duration.

Travel, visas, insurance, meals, local transport, materials, printing, framing, fabrication, shipping and specialised production expenses are not included.

A 30% non-refundable deposit and signed residency agreement are required to secure approved dates. The remaining balance is due one month before arrival unless otherwise agreed in writing.

2. Associate Program

The Associate Program is intended for practitioners who do not require accommodation but are seeking curatorial dialogue, an agreed working environment and support in developing research toward an exhibition, workshop, publication or public presentation.

The structure, schedule, responsibilities and any applicable costs are agreed individually. Participation does not automatically include production funding, permanent studio access or a guaranteed exhibition.

3. Fellowships

A limited number of partial or fully supported fellowships may occasionally be offered when external funding, sponsorship or an institutional partnership is available. Fellowships are not permanently available and cannot be guaranteed through the general application process. Confirmed opportunities are announced separately.

ELIGIBILITY

The program welcomes emerging, mid-career and established practitioners across visual arts, writing, research, curation, performance, sound, digital practices, architecture, design and interdisciplinary or socially engaged work. Formal art-school training is not required.

Applications are assessed according to the clarity and relevance of the proposal, its feasibility, the applicant’s previous work, available space and its relationship to Casablanca or the residency’s cultural context.

• A short explanation of why Casablanca and Yasmine Laraqui Studio are relevant to the proposal

Incomplete applications may not be reviewed. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, and response times vary according to the requested dates and whether additional information is required.

PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS

Residents and associates may be invited to share their work through an exhibition, open studio, artist talk, screening, reading, workshop or research presentation. The format depends on the project, calendar, available venue and technical feasibility; a public presentation is encouraged but is not automatically guaranteed.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, participants remain responsible for materials, printing, framing, fabrication, transport, installation and other production expenses.

Submitting an application or receiving an acceptance letter does not reserve a room. Dates are confirmed only after the exact period has been approved, the residency agreement has been signed and the 30% non-refundable deposit has been received.
